From the Podium: Nature’s Majesty

We all have been awed by a sunset, inspired by an amazing landcape, or mesmerized by the power of a storm. Who among us, upon seeing nature’s wildlife, has not imbued it with qualities such as nobility, tenderness, or magic? When we recall these visions, it is easy for us to relive the experience with pleasure. But try to recreate that experience for others – in poetry, painting, or even – music! No easy task is it?

From the Podium: Reflections on Lyle Lovett

Lyle Lovett performed at the Peoria Civic Center Theater under the auspices of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. It was an immensely satisfying evening of great American music drawn from the varied cultures and history of the United States and performed exquisitely by Mr. Lovett and his exceptionally talented acoustic group.

PSO in October: Romeo and Juliet – Eternal Forbidden Love

With swords drawn and passionate young love professed, the Peoria Symphony Orchestra will perform an exciting concert featuring the music of three composers obsessed with Romeo and Juliet – Tchaikovsky, Berlioz, and Prokofiev. The legend of these two tragic lovers dates back at least a century before William Shakespeare and extends past Bernstein’s “West Side Story” into the present day. Indeed, any story in which love struggles against familial or societal obstacles has some relation to the old tale.
