The Peoria Symphony Orchestra provides a program to reach seniors who are unable to attend regular concerts, giving them an opportunity to hear a live performance with a PSO soloist or ensemble at senior facilities and nursing homes.
As symphony patrons relocate to senior facilities, they may find it more difficult to attend regular PSO concerts. This effort utilizes musicians to perform and interact with residents. During these visits, residents, staff, and visitors learn about different musical instruments, hear interesting stories about composers, or learn why a particular piece was written.
We also know that music provides many health and wellness benefits. Music can:
- reduce tension and promote relaxation,
- diminish pain and improve recovery time,
- increase mobility and coordination,
- promote a happier outlook on life, and
- improve memory and recall
This Senior Outreach effort is made possible by a generous grant from the Community Foundation of Central Illinois. For more information, please contact Gloria Dearborn at 309.671.1096.
