In a community renowned for high quality healthcare, the Peoria Symphony Orchestra is uniquely equipped to provide a valuable community service – music as therapy.
Peoria Symphony musicians and guest artists bring music to people who cannot attend concerts but may appreciate and benefit from exposure to live music. When playing for residents of nursing homes and senior living facilities, we also provide much appreciated social interactions and conversations. In hospitals, we hope to provide patients, their families and hospital employees with a soothing environment to assist with the healing process.
Music is a form of therapy, which has been proven to:
- reduce tension and promote relaxation
- diminish pain
- improve recovery time
- improve moods and self-esteem
- improve memory and recall
- enhanced social interaction
- enhanced awareness and concentration
