Victor Romanul

Violinist Victor Romanul, who performed with the Boston Symphony for 32 years, is now a full-time soloist and teacher, performing throughout the country and abroad. A student of Jascha Heifetz, Ivan Galamian, and Joseph Silverstein, Victor has performed in thousands of concerts worldwide over many years. Recently, he has been involved in several televised video streams of solo performances of Paganini, Sauret, the Bach Chaconne, and Korngold from the Symphony Hall stage, and from Tanglewood, as well as educational videos on behalf of the Boston Symphony. Additionally, he has led the masterclasses on the Paganini Caprices and the Ysaÿe Sonatas at the Tanglewood Music Center, as well being the soloist who works with the conducting students at Tanglewood. A seasoned performer, Victor has tackled some of the most challenging repertoire, including in single concerts, the 24 Paganini Caprices, the six Ysaÿe Sonatas, the six Bach Sonatas, and also, the complete 10 Beethoven Sonatas over 3 concerts at the Goethe Institute in Boston.  With a repertoire of over 150 Concerti and Solo pieces with orchestra, he is frequently featured as soloist with orchestra, showcasing a wide range of pieces. As an active recitalist, he maintains a vast repertoire of works from the entire spectrum of violin music, both solo, and with piano. This season, in addition to many performances as soloist and recitalist, Victor recorded the Paganini “Le Streghe” for a production at the Munich National Opera, and appeared live and in streaming for WGBH TV in their Holiday Spectacular.

After finishing his training with Jascha Heifetz, at the age of 21, Victor became Associate Concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony where he remained for six years. He served as Concertmaster of the Eastern Music Festival, the Peninsula Music Festival in Wisconsin, and the Ars Poetica Orchestra in Detroit, made up of musicians selected from the major orchestras in the United States.

Victor was one of two soloists listed in the Best Of Boston under the category of Soloist with Orchestra for his performance of the Saint-Saens Concerto #3 with the Civic Symphony. In recent years, Victor has given multiple performances of the concerti of Glazunov, Beethoven, Bach (oboe) Double, Brahms Double, Paganini, Chausson (with the Colorado Quartet), Mendelssohn, Mozart Symphonie Concertante, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven Triple, Prokofiev #2, Bruch, Bruch Double, Sibelius, Vivaldi Seasons, and the Jose White Lafitte, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and many others.  He performed Schindler’s list with John Williams conducting. John Williams composed a three movement work, “Duo Concertante” for Victor and Michael Zaretsky who premiered and recorded it. In 2016, Victor wrote an article for Strings Magazine about the story of his career, and in 2019, Mel Magazine featured Victor as one of 10 performers from around the world whose performance inspires audiences to like Classical Music.
