Violinist Rong-Yan Tang joins the Peoria Symphony performing Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman Overture, Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, and Smetana’s Ma Vlast.
Rong-Yan Tang has been a member of the first violin section of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 2003, following her appointment by Daniel Barenboim. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, she continued her studies in the United States on full scholarship with Camilla Wicks and Donald Weilerstein.
A former protégé of Isaac Stern, Tang performed on a violin from Stern’s private collection and made her Carnegie Hall debut at his invitation. She has appeared as a soloist throughout the United States, China, Hong Kong, and France.
An award-winning chamber musician, Tang was first violinist of the Fry Street Quartet, earning top prizes at the Fischoff and Yellow Springs National Chamber Music Competitions. She is currently a founding member of the Audire Quartet, performing throughout the Chicago area and on WFMT broadcasts.
