Lucia H. de Benito y Sanchez awarded First Place in the Young Artists Competition

Lucia H. de Benito y Sanchez was awarded First Place in the Young Artists Competition held Saturday, October 25th in the Lecture Recital Hall of Illinois Central College in East Peoria. The Richwoods High School student played the Mendelssohn Concerto No. 1in G minor (1st mvt) on the piano.

As a result, Ms. Sanchez will perform with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra at the Student Concerts held April 17, 2015, at the Peoria Civic Center. The winner also receives the Donna Wilkinson Schwindenhammer Award.

Second Place was awarded to Elizabeth Lindqwister. She is a Richwood High School student who also played the Mendelssohn Concerto No. 1in G minor (1st mvt) on the piano.

Third Place was awarded to Derek Zimmerman, a Metamora High School student. He played the Edward Gregson: Tuba Concerto (mvt 1) on the tuba.

Judges for the competition are Dr. Andrea Molina, Professor of Piano, Bradley University; Dr. Eric Ginsberg, Professor of Clarinet, Western Illinois University; Dr. Julieta Mihai, Associate Professor of Violin, Western Illinois University.

The competition is sponsored by the Peoria Symphony Guild.
