Peoria Symphony Orchestra COVID-19 Updates
Update 2/28/2022
The Illinois Statewide Indoor Mask Requirement has been lifted effective Monday, February 28, 2022.
For the Peoria Symphony Orchestra concert, Herald of Spring, scheduled for March 12, 2022, at Grace Presbyterian Church, patrons will no longer be required to wear a mask inside this venue. If a patron wishes to continue to mask, the PSO supports that decision.
Please note that the PSO will heed any mask requirements that are required by federal, state or local regulations including businesses or venues that maintain a mask requirement. As we know more, specifically regarding our April concert which will take place on April 23, 2022 at the Peoria Civic Center Theater, we will communicate as soon as we have guidance from the venue.
Update 2/1/2022
Concerts held at the Peoria Civic Center are subject to additional safety requirements for patrons. The following will be in effect for our Saturday, February 12, 2022 performance Romance at 7:30 PM in the Peoria Civic Center Theater. An excerpt of the Civic Center’s Safety and Security policy is noted below:
The safety and security of our patrons is our top priority. In accordance with public health and industry standards, Peoria Civic Center has implemented the following policies to ensure safe, enjoyable events for all guests.
- Face Masks – Face coverings are required for all guests two years and older regardless of vaccination status per the Illinois Mask Mandate effective August 30, 2021.
- Cashless Concessions – All concession stands now require a credit/debit card for all transactions.
- Security Checkpoint – Guests will enter through metal detectors (electronic magnetometers), bags will be checked and guests will be required to remove hats and empty pockets of all items prior to scanning.

Clear Bags – Each guest will be allowed to carry in one (1) plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag that does not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″ or one (1), one-gallon clear plastic bag. In addition to a clear plastic bag each guest will be allowed to carry in one (1) small clutch that does not exceed 4.5″ x 6.5″. Diaper bags (with a child age 3 and under) and bags carrying medically necessary items will be allowed after a visual inspection inside the bag is completed by security.
PLEASE NOTE: The PSO cannot assume risk or liability for bags that are not allowed in the Civic Center. Bags that cannot be brought into the Theater will need to be taken back to your vehicle prior to entry.
- No Re-Entry – Re-entry is not permitted for Theater or Arena events. Patrons who exit the venue for any reason, including to smoke, will not be allowed to re-enter the facility.

Update 12/1/2021
For both performances of “Bach at the Cathedral” at St. Mary’s Cathedral, the Illinois Mask Mandate is still in effect. Individuals who are aged 2 and over are required to cover their nose and mouth with a face covering when in an indoor public place regardless of vaccination status.

Audience Safety – Keeping you safe while we keep the music playing
The safety of the Peoria Symphony patrons, musicians, and staff continues to be of paramount importance to us. We will continue to monitor, city, state, and federal developments to ensure our approach is aligned with the latest guidance.
These are the current guidelines we will be following for Peoria Symphony concerts:
MASKS – You must wear a face mask that covers your nose and mouth at all times when inside the venue per the Illinois Mask Mandate effective August 30, 2021.
SEATING: YOU MAY SIT IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT
If you would like more space around you, consult an usher to help find you a seat in a less populated area.
VACCINATION: PROOF OF VACCINATION NOT REQUIRED

Update 9/8/2021
The first concert of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra’s 124th Season will take place on September 25, 2021 and we are back in the concert hall!
If you have tickets for the September 25 concert, Symphony Triumphant, we will be following current CDC, state and local, and venue guidelines and policies. A full policy listing will be available September 17, 2021.
Update 3/13/21
Our previously scheduled April concert at the Peoria Civic Center, Tchaikovsky Spectacular, will be replaced by a new concert aired in the same manner as our other 123rd Season concerts. Our organization continues to follow local, state, and federal health guidelines for the safety of our musicians, patrons, and staff.
To that end, the PSO is excited to announce A New World, airing on Friday, April 30 at 7:30 PM on WTVP Public Television World Channel 47.3 You can also listen to the concert on 89.9 WCBU Peoria Public Radio and 89.1 WGLT Bloomington-Normal’s Public Media a week prior at 8:00 PM on Friday, April 23.

Our November 2020 Haydn & Mozart concert had to be postponed due to State of Illinois mitigation efforts. We are excited to announce that the Haydn & Mozart concert will now air on Saturday, March 27 at 8:00 PM on WTVP World 47.3! Click here for more information.
The previously scheduled March 2021 concert, Mahler’s Fifth, will have to be postponed for now due to current State of Illinois mitigation rules. Subscribers and donors should check their email for more information and updates.
Update 12/1/20
Maestro Stelluto is very excited about A Season of Hope. It is a message of hope and unity in music to central Illinois from the Peoria Symphony Orchestra.
The concert is a multi-faceted jewel shining in many directions, with works by Corelli, Handel, and Bach, along with ancient chants and messages of goodwill, peace, and hope to bring you joy, courage, and comfort into the New Year.
We are grateful for Maestro George Stelluto, our musicians, and staff who have worked together at an unprecedented pace to bring about this concert and deliver it with the quality that you expect from the PSO. We are also thankful for our concert sponsors and underwriters: Carl W. Soderstrom, MD, Commerce Bank, Sid & Flo Banwart, Conductor’s Circle, and The Meredith Foundation. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

Update 6/4/20
For nearly 123 years, the Peoria Symphony Orchestra has made it our mission to bring transformative musical performances to the stage and beyond. We meet with our local community in concert halls, schools, senior living facilities, and more.
However, our top priority is the health and safety of our community, patrons, musicians, and staff. In light of the Illinois Department of Public Health’s recent Restore Illinois plan, we are cancelling the two previously postponed concerts that remained in our 2019/20 season.
Patrons who had tickets to Mozart and Tchaikovsky (previously rescheduled to June 27, 2020) and Beethoven @ 250: #1 (previously rescheduled to August 4, 2020) have been contacted with options to manage their tickets to cancelled performances. The PSO extends special thanks to Maui Jim, the Meredith Foundation, Virginia Spaeth, and the Illinois Arts Council Agency for their generous sponsorship and underwriting support of the cancelled Mozart & Tchaikovsky and Beethoven @ 250: #1 concerts.
Music Director George Stelluto notes:
“While I’m certainly disappointed that these concerts are cancelled, I am buoyed by the outpouring of goodwill and support for the PSO. We will get there, but we must navigate forward with both prudence and courage.”
Our patrons sustain and inspire us to do more. We know that, on the other side of this crisis, we will still be there for each other. We are encouraged by those who have reached out and asked how they can help and support us as we navigate this situation. We are particularly grateful to the many patrons who have requested the value of their tickets be used toward a tax-deductible donation to the orchestra.
